Barcelona has a Crime Victim Support Office (Oficines d'atenció a les víctimes del delicte) that offers comprehensive care for ALL victims of any crime: judicial information and guidance, accompaniment in the judicial process, social care and support (referral to the community networks), and psychological care in crisis and recovery.
Crime Victim Support Office (OAVD Office) is a
free service that provides care, support and guidance to victims and people harmed by crime, and a point of coordination for protection orders for victims of domestic and gender violence that adopted by the judicial bodies in Catalonia.
These services depend on the Directorate General of Criminal Enforcement in the Community and of Juvenile Justice and have the purpose of offering victims information and support so that they can exercise the rights recognized by current legislation, as well as comprehensive attention to enhance the personal recovery and reduce victimization. This service aims to:
- Promote the rights of victims and enhance the application and development of the regulator framework.
- Act as a bridge between the victims and the judicial authorities involved in the process.
- Provide comprehensive care that avoids revictimization, minimizes the sequelae and enhances psychosocial recovery.
Information and advice provided:
- The OAVD Office advise on your rights from before filing the complaint until the judicial resolution.
- The OAVD Office inform about the right to free legal assistance and the office shift.
- The OAVD Office advice of victim’s role in a judicial process.
- Information about how to apply for a protection order and what this means.
- Information of the financial aid to which you may be entitled due to the fact that you have suffered certain crimes.
- Information and offer comprehensive care, as provided for in Law 29/2011, of September 22, on the recognition and comprehensive protection of victims of terrorism.
- Accompaniment throughout the entire judicial procedure specially for: to prepare for the oral hearing, to ask for the necessary protective measures to guarantee your privacy and safety (mainly in the case of sexual assault and domestic or gender-based violence), to attend court proceedings with you, if necessary., if you have a protection order, we will inform you of the content and duration of the measures taken, as well as the prison situation of the accused person.
